Welcome to my blog!
My name’s Paige and I love the ocean. I love it so much that I got it tattooed on my chest, so that I can bring some seawater with me wherever I go. The first time I ever went to the beach was when I was six. After that, I was hooked. I’ve always loved water– summers were spent playing in the pool, and running through sprinklers in my hot Missouri neighborhood– but once I really got to learn about the ocean, I was hooked. I suffer from severe anxiety, and the only time I feel weightless is when I’m floating in the sea. I love getting out past the white water and letting the crests of the waves lift me off the ocean floor. That feeling will never get old to me.
I’ve had multiple experiences in the oceans. I’ve been in the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean. It’s on my bucket list to visit every ocean before I die. I’ve parasailed, swam, surfed, boogie boarded, waded, and boated on the big blue. I’ve fished and cruised. I’ve even been in a submarine. There’s so many things I want to do involving the ocean that I haven’t gotten to do yet! Wind surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, jet skiing, and kite boarding are just a few.
Here’s the problem: the ocean is dying. It’s in trouble. We’re taking from the ocean more than it can produce. Fish populations are being devastated, ecosystems are being ruined by oil spills, pesticides are running off into the water, and most horrifyingly, we’re treating the ocean like one big garbage dump. The world grew at such an alarming rate, and we’re just now starting to realize the impact it had. Our advancements in technology and industries propelled us into the next century, but they are also hurting one of the most important ecosystems on the planet. Did you know that 50% of the oxygen we breathe comes from the ocean?
After learning about what was going on, I wanted to do something. I might not live near the ocean, but things I do in my everyday life have an impact on it. This giant body of water is so important to me, and it’s time that I start making a difference in order to save it. This blog will document my quest to do everything I can to change the future of the ocean. I’ll also be covering anything ocean related– not just sustainability, but also fun facts about the ocean, fun facts about animals in the ocean, and reviews of ocean related books and movies. My goal is to start scuba diving soon and I can’t wait to document that here!
Be on the look out for my upcoming posts. I’m so excited to immerse myself in the world of blue, and I hope you are too!
